Lockton Is Proud to be Part of the Journey
When we heard about the new project that Lockton (our parent company) is working on, we couldn’t help thinking, “This must be the future!” Cool revolutionary companies like EasyMile are turning our technology dreams into reality. And Lockton Companies is experienced at analyzing the changing insurance needs from new tech and creating unique solutions.
The EZ10 shuttle bus recently embarked on its maiden voyage, becoming Australia’s first driverless bus. Created by EasyMile, the shuttle has no steering wheel and no front so it can change its direction without turning. It can carry up to 12 passengers and runs up to 12 hours per charge. And our favorite feature (other than the no driver thing)? Zero emissions!
The trailblazing Australian buses run on virtual tracks that can be easily configured to accommodate changes in traffic or demand. A hybrid sensing approach inspired by aeronautics keeps everyone safe (we’re guessing this is Lockton’s favorite feature!) by detecting obstacles through a combination of cameras, lasers and differential GPS sensing. And the internet-connected buses includes cybersecurity systems (we’re really into cybersecurity too).
“Autonomous transport technology is no longer science fiction – it’s here and we are leading the way,” said Michael Gunner, Northern Territory Chief Minister, “With this project, (we) join an exclusive list of jurisdictions worldwide… including Singapore, Dubai/UAE, France, Netherlands, California and Japan.”
And Lockton is coming along for the ride, providing insurance and risk management coverage for this project. The Lockton Northern Territory team, in collaboration with the London office, are excited to lead the way with the Darwin Waterfront Corporation, pioneering Australia’s autonomous transport.
